Health Pods for Offices, Campuses and Public Spaces: A Buyer's Guide

Seven steps to choosing a health pod, from the problem you are solving to the support contract behind it.

Health Pods for Offices, Campuses and Public Spaces: A Buyer's Guide

A health pod is a compact, self-service health station where people can get a checkup, see their results and consult a doctor without leaving the building. For HR leaders, facility managers, hospital administrators and public health teams, it is one of the fastest ways to add preventive care to a space.

This guide walks through what to consider before you buy.

Step 1: Decide what problem the health pod should solve

Start with the outcome, not the hardware. Common goals include:

  • Reducing sick leave by catching diabetes, hypertension and heart risk early in a workforce.
  • Meeting occupational health requirements at plants and worksites.
  • Adding diagnostics to a clinic or pharmacy without building a lab.
  • Reaching underserved communities through a government or CSR programme.
  • Offering a wellness benefit that employees actually use.

Your goal shapes the tests you need, where the pod goes and how you measure success. Our piece on employee health programmes covers the workplace case in more depth.

Step 2: Choose the right health pod format

FormatWhat it isChoose it when
Health ATM kioskA standing, self-service screening stationYou want high throughput in a lobby, cafeteria, ward or store
Health LoungeA branded wellness room with guided screeningYou want a calm, premium experience for employees or members
Box ClinicA portable clinic in a caseYou need to move between sites or run camps
Mobile Medical UnitA health pod on wheelsYou serve many locations on a route

Many organisations combine formats. Reliance, for example, runs both a Health Kiosk and a Health Lounge at its corporate headquarters.

Step 3: Check the test menu

A good health pod should cover the conditions that matter for your population. Clinics On Cloud pods run a 65+ parameter checkup across 14 specialities, including cardiac screening with ECG, diabetes (HbA1c), anaemia, pulmonary function, vision, hearing, dental and oral cancer screening, urine analysis, mental health screening and rapid infectious disease tests.

Ask the vendor which parameters are included in your configuration and which are add-ons. The full parameter list is a useful checklist.

Step 4: Look at the user experience

A health pod only works if people use it. Look for:

  • A full checkup in about ten minutes
  • Voice-guided, multilingual instructions for first-time users
  • Reports delivered instantly on WhatsApp or email
  • A doctor consultation built into the same visit
  • No trained operator needed

Step 5: Verify compliance and data security

Health data is sensitive. Before you buy, confirm:

  • Medical device licensing: CDSCO licence in India and CE marking for other markets
  • Quality management: ISO 13485
  • Information security: ISO 27001 and HIPAA-compliant data handling
  • Integration: support for HMIS, LIS, EMR, corporate HR systems and national digital health records

Step 6: Plan space, power and connectivity

A kiosk needs only a small floor area and a power point. A Health Lounge needs a small room. Pods that work offline and sync later are valuable in basements, plants and remote sites with patchy internet.

Step 7: Ask about support and total cost

Price is more than the unit. Ask about installation, staff training, maintenance, consumables per test, teleconsultation doctors and software updates. Clinics On Cloud manufactures its pods in-house in Chakan, Pune, and handles installation, training and after-sales support.
